Here is the quote:
“The fact is, that God has established in no church, any particular form, or manner of worship, for promoting the interests of religion. The scriptures are entirely silent on these subjects, under the gospel dispensation, and the church is left to exercise her own discretion in relation to all such matters.”
Who could have possibly said this? Please post your answers. I am curious.
1. District President in the LCMS
2. Local LCMS Pastor
3. LCMS Layperson
4. LCMS bureaucrat
5. Commission on Worship Member
6. Yours Truly, Charles Finney
7. Any or all of the above.
Well, you said it first, but I could easily see 1, 3, 4, or 5 saying it. Around here not 2, but elsewhere, perhaps.

If you changed “under the gospel dispensation” to “so it is adiaphora,” it could have been 1, 2, 4, or 5. As it stands, I’m guessing number 6.
3 would not necessarily use “adiaphora,” but they would say something like “God doesn’t care, as long as we’re worshiping Him.”

I’m guessing #1, however, I’ve heard something like it from all of the above.
By the way, Chuck….have you seen over at Jefferson Hills they ordained a whole bunch of elders to distribute Holy Communion through the week at gatherings at members houses? When some of us Lutherans politely called attention to the theological problems, not only did they not post the comments, they shut off comments!!!

You know that you said it. My question: “How old are you these days C.G.?”

Yes, I said it! No LCMS bureaucrat could utter lengthy words like “dispensation” or “discretion.” “Missional” is as far as they can go.
You do see, however, how I have influenced your church. They bow down at my altar. All of you should give up.
JH operates like a true dictatorship. Stalin and I are both proud. Jihad Hills will force their measures no matter what!
